Why mothers love mornings
Updated: Jun 23, 2019
The older I get, the more I appreciate the beauty of the morning quiet. I love the glowy look of the sky just before sunrise when that romantic dimness blankets the world, softening everything before the glaring bright of the day hits. Since becoming a mother, this is my absolute most favourite time of the day. I love waking up when it’s still dark to Chloe’s morning murmurs and scooping her out of her cot for the first cuddle of the day. I carry her back into my warm bed and breastfeed her, allowing her to doze off again, still snuggled into the crook of my arm. While she sleeps I take the opportunity to gaze at her little face, still, serene and natural, perfect without pretense. Is there anything more beautiful than a sleeping baby?
If it is a really good day, I might even manage to sneak out of bed without waking Chloe or the dog (who is sleeping in her crate at the end of the bed) and get to the kitchen to enjoy a solitary coffee and a slice of toast before the chaos of the morning routine ensues. It’s a simple pleasure, but one that fills me with gratitude and warmth even before I get out of bed each day.
